A common hip injury among athletes and weekend warriors is a labral tear. It involves the ring of cartilage—the labrum—located on the outside rim of the socket of the hip joint. While athletes who participate in sports such as soccer, football, hockey, and golf are at higher risk of labral tears, people who have structural abnormalities of the hip also can be at risk.
In this video, Cristin McGetrick, a physical therapist of the SMARTherapy center at Washington Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, presents different types of labral injuries as well as several tests that are performed to determine the presence of a labral tear.
